Answers to the main questions we get asked:
Yes! You can teach in English!
Yes! You can teach in your subject area!
Yes! You can save more money than you are saving in the US.
Webber’s Ed - Teacher Talent seeks to be an affordable international education recruitment and placement agency for the majority of schools in Latin America. We normally represent private or non-profit international, International Baccalaureate (IB), American, British, Canadian, bi-cultural and bilingual schools throughout Latin America. Most of these schools are accredited by US accreditation agencies.
THE STUDENT BODY
The majority of our schools serve mostly middle and upper-class students from their host country as well as some international students whose parents are working or living internationally. However, it is worth noting that many of the students’ parents make great sacrifices to afford their children this level of education and many students attend these schools on partial to full scholarships. Very few schools in Latin America can honestly claim to have a majority of international students.
SALARIES AND BENEFITS
The salaries and benefits are usually quite modest compared to other regions around the world; however it is usually enough to live on, travel in the region during holidays and vacations and even save (US $5,000 to $10,000) if one is careful with their money. Latin American schools, in general, are not a place where you can afford to pay large expenses back home but you can live comfortably.
THE TAX MAN!
Most Latin American countries will tax you between 15 and 30% on your income and this is an important question that you should ask before signing a contract. Keep in mind that US Citizens are generally entitled to a $101,300 (as of 2016) exclusion of taxable income if they teach abroad for at least 11 months of the year. Canadians, Australians, British citizens, and others also enjoy a variety of tax benefits while teaching abroad.
DEPENDENT CHILDREN
Many schools will offer partial or full tuition for any school-aged dependent children and may double the benefit for a teaching couple. This is another point that you must clarify before signing a contract.
HIRING PREFERENCES
Many of our schools are happy to hire single teachers as well as teaching couples and partners with children.
VISAS
Sometimes it is difficult to place educators from Africa, the Middle East, and Asia due to visa issues as well as educators over 60 due to insurance reasons. However, it is not impossible, as many educators from these populations do work in Latin America. Most schools will assist you in acquiring the visa and or reimburse you for the cost of the visa.
IT’S THE LIFESTYLE AND OPPORTUNITES!
Educators usually come to teach in Latin America for the lifestyle and opportunity to learn international curriculum (IB) or break into administration. If you need to “make bank” that can happen in a few of our schools but usually you are better off in the Middle East, Asia or some places in Africa. After you “make bank” or pay off your bills then come back to Latin America.
