Suzanne Muir (English) Leadership, School Improvement Planning, Culture, Equity and Inclusion

Suzanne Muir is an educator and equity consultant with over 25 year experience as a teacher, system leader, and children's author..  She spent most of her career as the Equity and Inclusive Education Coordinator at the Halton District School board in Canada serving over 100  publicly funded elementary and 12 secondary schools to provide human rights leadership, policy development and staff learning/coaching for administrators, teachers and school staff.  She has continued her passion for education consultation and school improvement planning with numerous private schools and non-profit organizations over the last 5 years conducting: school improvement planning, inclusion audits, strategic planning, student voice projects, community consultation, parent engagement strategies, resource development and staff training.   She is a published children's author with over 15 books in print for both the education and trade markets.   Her latest multi-lingual online picture book is available along with parent resources at www.familiesloveeachother.com 

Suzanne splits her time between Burlington Ontario Canada and her new home in Las Lajas de Chame, Panama.  Her workshops and coaching can be tailored to meet the specific needs of your staff and school.  

 

 

 

Equity Diversity and Inclusion - Online or In Person

This workshop can be organized for large group sessions, small teacher inquiry groups or coaching.  School leaders can also book Suzanne for one on one coaching, policy writing or review, parent information sessions, and problem solving in person or synchronous online.   
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion workshops help schools and staff improve their ability to know their learners deeply while ensuring that a social justice stance improves their student's global perspective and innovation to think about the big ideas that will transform our world.   Suzanne can create stand alone workshops for all staff to help them identify and build on their EDI (equity, diversity and inclusion) goals.  Smaller group teacher inquiries  (eg. grade teams) with in-class coaching can be facilitated to ensure that teachers embed equity concepts into their daily practice in ways that transform student learning.    The length of workshops and coaching are flexible to meet the needs of your staff and school.  

Faith, Gender and Sexual Orientation Guidelines/ Policy Development - Online

For school administrators or leadership teams - synchronous online 20 participants maximum.  In this 4-5 part session we will co-create student/ staff faith, gender and sexual orientation policies/ guidelines - extra writing time may be needed. 
Your school's equity and inclusion policies can be reviewed or developed using Suzanne's expertise and experience.  She has specific experience in co-creating equity policies and guidelines and resources including staff, parents and students and  we will co-create strategies for implementing EDI policies successfully.  Introduction workshop - 1 hour synchronous online, Review of policies 3-4 sessions plus writing time.  

Bullying Prevention and Intervention - Online

3 one hour synchronous online sessions - 20 participants maximum 
Bullying prevention and intervention requires attention to school culture and student voice/ engagement at it's centre.  We will explore specific strategies to create and  assess student based data on safety and inclusion at your school, research based strategies to create change and integrate concepts into day to day classroom and school life.  

Creating a safe and inclusive online classroom - Online

60 minutes - synchronous online- 20 participants maximum.  Grade groupings K-2, 3-5, 6-8 are ideal.
Starting off the year with partial or full time online learning?  Creating a community of learners who feel safe and included can be a challenge in the online environment.  We will explore some tips and strategies to help students to build community quickly and engage fully with your content.  
With the rising competition for qualified teachers, there is simply no substitute for a real person able to answer questions, and to talk knowledgeably not only about your school, but also your city, country, and region.
