Webber’s Ed 10 Year Anniversary

Today is the 10th anniversary of Webber’s Ed so I want to take some time to reflect on this major accomplishment. 10 years in business is a success for any business.

While our company has gone through many changes in the past 10 years to get where we are today there are some things that have never changed. First of all, our belief in education in Latin America and that Latin American students deserve the best education possible has always been our driving force. My experience in Latin America has included 4 years of full-time teaching in Venezuela and Mexico and continued with our work in international debate in schools through Webber’s Ed and now Asociación Mexicana de Debate A.C.  where I currently serve as President of the Board.  The Latin American students have been some of the best, most clever, funniest, respectful and thankful out of any students I have taught anywhere in the world. Their gratitude has been a driving force for me as I have stayed very close to many of my former students including having the opportunity to work with them through Webber’s Ed, the English Speaking Union – Mexico or AMD A.C.

We have found that always doing our best to act with honesty and integrity has been a major factor in building trust around what we do, whether it be teaching students in the classroom or recruiting teachers for schools. We love the fact that the best way to make contact with educators, students and schools continues to be visiting the schools and meeting in-person at conferences where we can shake hands, have a coffee and talk face-to-face. Even though this is considered old fashioned by many, it is warmly welcomed in in Latin America and at Webber’s Ed as it is a means of keeping the humanity in what we do.

Another area where we have happy to participate is in working with schools and other companies in Latin America and having the opportunity to give input and be part of the discussion about what is happening with education in the region. We feel that Latin America has become a hotbed for innovation and many of the schools are bringing more and more cutting-edge ideas and strategies to the table. To be able to have input on these advancements as well as getting the chance to witness this in real time has been invigorating and exciting as we see the development take place in real time. This also inspires us to continue to up our game in the services that we bring to the table for the region.

Promoting the debate circuit in Mexico and throughout Latin America will always be a project that is very near and dear to my heart. As an educator, I have seen few things that can change the lives of students the way that academic debate, public speaking and theatre arts can. It is because of my over 30 years of experience of facilitating these life-changing activities that I will continue to participate in the organizing of these activities and try to bring them to as many students as we possibly can, for as long as we can. I am fortunate to get to work with many people that I consider personal friends as well as many of my former students on these projects. However, the most important part for me is that this is where I get to keep my feet in the classroom with the most important stakeholders in all of this; the kids! That is the part that will never get old for me.

So if anyone ever wonders what we are doing or why are we doing it, all they have to do is to look at these four points and they will find Webber’s Ed’s raison d’être. Finally, I just want to say thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey, most importantly our team at Webber’s Ed. We have made our corner of the world a better place and we hope to continue to do so for many years to come. Thank you everyone!
