Primary Homeroom - Panama - August 2024

Our client school is seeking a Primary Homeroom (self-contained) teacher for August 2024

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • ● Plan, prepare and provide classes according to the School YLP Curriculum
  • ● Operate as an advocate for and supporter of inquiry and hands-on problem-based learning in which students use 21st century skills collaboratively to solve real world problems.
  • ● Facilitate the development, implementation, and communication of a shared vision of learning that reflects excellence and equity for all students.
  • ● Participate in the creation and implementation of the school strategic planning process.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • ● Engage in continuing improvement of professional knowledge and skills.
  • ● Keep abreast of developments in instructional methodology, learning theory, curriculum trends and content.
  • ● Conduct a personal assessment periodically to determine professional development needs with reference to specific instructional assignments.
  • ● Develop and implement a Professional Growth Plan annually in accordance with the School's requirements.
  • ● Act in a professional and ethical manner and adhere to professional standards at all times, in accordance with the Professional Standard outlined in the School Professional Growth and Evaluation Plan.
  • ● Perform other responsibilities, but not limited, such as: subbing, support teachers and students checking in/out books from library, bar codes and books registration for inventory, section meetings, individual meetings
  • ● Demonstrate attention to punctuality, attendance, records and reports.
  • ● Maintain confidentiality of student and other professional information.
  • ● Comply with policies, procedures and programs.
  • ● Support school improvement initiatives by active participation in school committees, school activities, services and programs.
  • ● Perform other tasks, as assigned, consistent with the goals and objectives of the school.

INSTRUCTIONAL PLANNING: Preparation & Organization

  • ● Create long-range and daily plans based on a review of the School curriculum priorities, student profiles and instructional priorities. Ensure goals, objectives, appropriate pace and sequencing, accommodations and differentiation.
  • ● Plan and prepare lessons and instructional strategies which support the school improvement plan and the School mission. Provision For Individual Differences
  • ● Plan and prepare a variety of learning activities considering individual student’s culture, learning styles, special needs, and socio- emotional background.
  • ● Select, develop, modify and/or adapt materials and resources which support learning objectives and address students’ varying learning styles, backgrounds and special needs.
  • ● Provide feedback to students about the appropriateness of responses and quality of work with a focus on improving student performance.
  • ● Adhere to individualized student plans.

IMPLEMENTATION OF INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES/DELIVERY:

  • ● Identify specific intended learning outcomes which are challenging, meaningful and measurable.
  • ● Ensure that students are engaged in meaningful, relevant learning throughout their class time.
  • ● Apply principles of learning and effective teaching in instructional delivery that align with the school’s vision and strategic plan.
  • ● Use appropriate techniques and strategies to enhance the application of critical, creative and evaluative thinking capabilities of students.

ASSESSMENT OF STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT:

  • ● Establish an appropriate testing environment and ensure test security.
  • ● Establish and maintain efficient record keeping procedures.
  • ● Develop and use standards- aligned assessment strategies (traditional and alternative) to assist the continuous development of learners.
  • ● Interpret and use data (including but not limited to standardized and other test results) for diagnosis, instructional planning and program evaluation.
  • ● Use ongoing assessment to monitor student progress, verify that learning is occurring and adjust curriculum and instruction.
  • ● Communicate, in understandable terms, individual students progress knowledgeably and responsibly to the student, parents and professional colleagues who need access to the information.
  • ● Encourage self-assessment by students and assist them in developing plans for improving their performance.

MANAGEMENT OF LEARNING ENVIRONMENT:

  • ● Establish and maintain a positive and safe learning environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
  • ● Maintain a clean, attractive, and organized learning environment.
  • ● Establish routines and procedures and work with students on consistently following them and ensure efficiency in the classroom.
  • ● Ensure students adhere to school policies.
  • ● Create a learning climate that is challenging, yet non-threatening.
  • ● Assist in enforcement of school rules, administrative regulations and school policy.
  • ● Foster student responsibility, appropriate social behavior, integrity, valuing of cultural diversity, and respect for self and others by role modeling and learning activities.
  • ● Recognize overt indicators of student distress or abuse and take appropriate intervention, referral, or reporting actions.
  • ● Establish and use behavior management techniques which are appropriate and effective.

SCHOOL CULTURE

  • ● Demonstrate a caring attitude and display a relationship of mutual respect with each student.
  • ● Respond to student questions and concerns in a positive, constructive manner.
  • ● Create a positive learning environment, which encourages social interaction, active engagement and self-motivation.

Please note that this school cannot provide placement for dependent children (unless they are Jewish) but they do provide a stipend to support children who are not  dependents of Jewish parents.

Teachers are not required to be Jewish to work at the school.

Also, if your visa is from a country that requires an "Autorized Visa" you will most likely not be accepted as the visa process is very difficult. This is Panamanian law and has nothing to do with the school.
