OVERVIEW & COMMUNITY

Colegio Americano de Torreón (CAT) is a private, non-profit college preparatory international school governed by a fifteen-member board of directors. It provides a bilingual/bicultural educational program to approximately 1214 students in grades N-12. It was founded in 1950 and has been accredited by Cognia, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (CASI), and the Secretaría de Educación Publica (SEP) since 1954. CAT offers students an opportunity to graduate with dual U.S. and Mexican High School diplomas.

CURRICULUM

All of our High School students follow program requirements for both the Secretaria de Educacion Publica (SEP) guidelines, as well as United States curriculum standards to obtain both their Bachillerato certificate and their High School Diploma. The academic program is organized on a rotating block schedule. Seven credits per semester is the maximum course load. Students take seven 80-minute block classes and have Access, which is a time to meet with their teachers outside of class time. Students attend three block classes and an Access time daily. Block classes are both semester and year-long; each block class meets twice a week. Block scheduling was instituted in 2020.
